Poppy's Big Girl Bed || Dana Point Kids Photographer
When we first started potty training Poppy, I knew right away we would need to move her into a big girl bed pretty soon. She is just so smart but she was still going #2 in her diaper every morning and she would say she couldn’t get up to go to the bathroom. So guess it’s time to get serious about her big girl bed.
I have been dreaming about this Montessori inspired house bed forever but when I looked up the price tag, I was shocked. $300-$400 for like 10 pieces of wood… No thank you.
I also have the mindset that I can do anything so this was happening. I found some easy FREE plans online from The Design Confidential to build it and enlisted the help of my engineer dad to help me.
Here what I did…
Day 1 - We got wood and sanded it down. I could only find Douglas Fir at Home Depot which isn’t great wood but it works. We cut everything to size (I made ours a little taller than the plans so she wouldn’t bonk her head). I just needed to sand it a lot, so I sanded first with 50 grit and then finished with 220. I also stained it with Rustic White Wash stain.
Day 2 - We put the base together and I painted a rainbow on the base. We also wrote sweet notes of encouragement to our big girl. We could have finished it in two days but my hands were sore from sanding so much and it started raining.
Day 3 - We took it up to her room and put it together. It was so fast and so easy!
Let me know if you make one too, I love to see what you create!
